Blackfeet Indians
In July 1806, when the Corps were returning from their journey, they came upon the Blackfeet tribe in present day Northern Montana. While the Corps were staying with the Blackfeet, they told the tribe about the United States's attempt o make peace between the Indian tribes. They told them that the tribes who agreed would get guns and supplies; they also told the tribe that their enemies, the Nez Perce and Shoshone tribes had already agreed and were going to receive guns. The Blackfeet took this as a threat, so one night the Blackfeet attemted to steal the expedition's guns. However, they were not successful, and two of the Blackfeet warriors were killed. Throughout the Corps's stay, the Blackfeet were hostile towards them.
